1962-1966. Salt and Vinegar flavored chips were first sold, mods and rockers looks were gaining notoriety and it marked a new time in Sony history with the emergence of new Sony stores and buildings.
Now usually I'd cover a product but today's post is a reminder that we also have Sony Style store locations. 1962 paved the way for these stores with the first Sony store opening on Fifth Avenue in New York. Our Sony Style store in Manhattan has since moved to 550 Madison Square Avenue but it well worth the visit with fun window displays.

Then no more than 4 years later did the Sony building open in Ginza (Japan). The first Sony presence in Ginza happened in 1957 when Sony put up a neon sign.

Next came a showroom featuring the latest in 1960's technology. As the showroom became too small for a quickly growing company, Sony secured 700 sq meters to build what we see today. The designers of the Sony Building were inspired by New York's Guggenheim Museum. Today's showroom is filled with interactive features and fun introductions to new technologies. One of its highlights (in my opinion) is a musical staircase. I found some cool video on YouTube that highlights it. This person even found some secret commands to change the lighting.
So as we
all try to stay cool in these warm summer months, take note of the air conditioned
buildings (and Sony Style stores) you're in and share what interesting things you find or learn. So throw on your mod sun glasses
and let's kick off Flashback Friday!
